Happy days! Our wonderful Founder Amy has just been included in this year’s Independent Happy List. Amy was amongst “50 outstanding people whose volunteering, caring, fundraising, mentoring, charity work or selflessness make Britain a happier place to live.” Hear hear.
The Happy List was first started by the newspaper in 2008 to recognise the inspiring work of many of the unsung heroes who are dedicated to helping others and the wider community, every single day. “I’m delighted to make the Happy List,” says Amy, who was also named on the Bristol Happy List at the start of the year. “It was a huge surprise and I felt genuinely overwhelmed! There are some amazing people on the list and I’m so proud to be on there with them. I think it’s fantastic that a loneliness charity is being recognised on something like this. Rather than seeing loneliness as a hopeless end state, it’s a great opportunity to make new connections and open up your world, or else experience the lovely act of somebody else helping you. We want to encourage the idea that loneliness is completely normal and so many positive things can come out of it.”
