Community Christmas

Connecting people with local hosts offering warmth and friendship on Christmas Day.

What is Community Christmas?

Community Christmas provides a way of connecting people to ensure no one spends
Christmas Day alone unless they want to. We connect hosts holding festive gatherings
with older or isolated individuals looking for company and seasonal cheer on 25
December. Whether you’re organising a local event, or you’d like to join a Christmas
Day activity yourself, Community Christmas can help connections happen. Together,
we can make Christmas a time of warmth, friendship, and community for everyone.

For our Marmalade Christmas Cheer project, which takes place in the Bristol, South
Glos/North Somerset area only, please visit our Christmas Cheer page.

Why your role as host matters

Hosting a Community Christmas event is a wonderful way to share the joy of the festive season with those who might otherwise spend the day alone. As a host, you might be offering an activity, event, or meal in your local community hall, café, pub, or other local venue to offer warmth and friendship on Christmas Day. Your event can be featured on the Community Christmas map, helping local people find and join in.

Who Can Host?

To be included on the map, your event must be:

  • Taking place on 25 December

  • Free for participants

  • Inclusive and open to people from all backgrounds

  • Accessible and welcoming for older adults

To get in touch, email our team communitychristmas@marmaladetrust.org.

Join a Community Christmas celebration near you

If you’re looking at a Christmas spent alone and would prefer to join others for a
seasonal celebration, Community Christmas may be able to connect you with a local
gathering or activity hosted by community groups, volunteers, not-for-profit
organisations or pubs and cafes.

To take part, please complete our short application form so we can check for a suitable
host in your area.

Community Christmas is for adults who are:

  • 18 or over

  • Able to make their own travel and attendance arrangements

This is a new programme from Marmalade Trust, and as it grows, more activities will be
