Volunteer this Christmas.

Become a Christmas Doorstep Visit Volunteer and bring festive joy and companionship by delivering Christmas Hampers to some of the loneliest people in our region on Christmas Day.

What is a Doorstep Visit Volunteer?

You’ll visit one of our members (or more if you’d like!) on Christmas Day and deliver a festive
hamper full of gifts. Stay for a chat to find out how they are and bring a bit of Christmas cheer.

Who are Marmalade members?

Our Marmalade members vary in age and ability, but all experience social isolation and/or loneliness and would otherwise be on their own on Christmas Day. Some of our members may have been isolating at home
since March 2020 and don’t feel comfortable attending events yet so a doorstep visit will really make their day!

About the role...

To be a Doorstep Visit Volunteer, you must:

  • Be over 18

  • Have two suitable references for a reference check and proof of  identity (such as a driving licence or passport)

  • Be able to attend a brief online session

  • Be double-vaccinated against COVID-19

  • Be able to wear a mask

Commitment Required:

A doorstep visit on Christmas day can take as little as 30 to 60 minutes and will make the
world of difference to those experiencing loneliness and social isolation.

Volunteers and members safety are of paramount importance to us to mitigate the risk of COVID-19. To further mitigate the risk of COVID-19, for this role you must:

  • Be COVID-19 symptom-free before attending the event

  • Have a negative lateral flow test a maximum of 24 hours before attending the event

  • Be able and willing to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as a mask and adhere to all infection prevention control guidelines.

Please also consider your own personal risk of face-to-face engagement. You can complete the COVID-Age Tool to determine personal risk to help you decide whether you feel comfortable volunteering. Do contact us if you would like to discuss this further.

Thank you for your interest - in the last 24 hours we have had an overwhelming and heartwarming response to social media posts. We are currently closed to applications for event and doorstep volunteers but we are still open to applications for Marmalade Companion Volunteers. Please take a look and apply here to become a Marmalade Companion volunteer instead.

We would be so grateful if you could share our Christmas fundraiser on social media.

Become a Marmalade Companion

If you would like to do EVEN more … we would love for you to consider becoming one of our Marmalade Companion Volunteers in January 2022, giving a weekly call to members over a 20-week period with the aim of supporting each person to make new connections and find social activity in their local community.
