VOLUNTEER

Volunteer this Christmas.

Become a Christmas Cheer Event Volunteer and bring festive joy and companionship to some of the loneliest people in our region on Christmas Day.

What is an Event Volunteer?

You'll collect one or two Marmalade members from their homes and drive them to one of our 40 mini Christmas Day events. Made up of six people, events will be in pubs or restaurants across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. You'll be there to support your members and help create a warm, friendly, supportive, and fun environment during the Christmas Day event. At the end of the meal, you'll make sure members receive their hamper full of gifts, and get them home safely. We aim to match you to members based on location and what (if any) additional support they require.

Who are Marmalade members?

Our Marmalade members vary in age and ability, but all experience social isolation and/or loneliness and would otherwise be on their own on Christmas Day. Some of our members may have been isolating at home since March 2020 and could be feeling quite concerned about engaging with people again, so they will require a friendly face and supportive and reassuring volunteers around them.

"It means everything to know someone cares. Without Marmalade Trust, I wouldn't have spoken to or seen anyone over Christmas. I'm so grateful."

Volunteer this Christmas!

Thank you for your interest - in the last 24 hours we have had an overwhelming and heartwarming response to social media posts. We are currently closed to applications for event and doorstep volunteers but we are still open to applications for Marmalade Companion Volunteers. Please take a look and apply here to become a Marmalade Companion volunteer instead.

We would be so grateful if you could share our Christmas fundraiser on social media.

  • Attend a brief online session to give you information on your role and how to support member(s). This will also give you an opportunity to meet other volunteers.

COVID-19

Volunteers and members safety are of paramount importance to us. We are planning to adhere to the rule of 6 for each table at a venue (approximately two volunteers and four members per table) to mitigate the risk of COVID-19. To further mitigate the risk of COVID-19, for this role you must:

  • Be double-vaccinated against COVID-19 to ensure the safety of both volunteers and members

  • Be COVID-19 symptom-free before attending the event

  • Have a negative lateral flow test a maximum of 24 hours before attending the event

  • Be able and willing to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as a mask (apart from when sitting at the table for the Christmas meal) and adhere to all infection prevention control guidelines.

Please also consider your own personal risk of face-to-face engagement. You can complete the COVID-Age Tool to determine personal risk to help you decide whether you feel comfortable volunteering. We will provide you with further COVID-19 guidance nearer to the time of the event. Do contact us if you would like to discuss this further.

Become a Marmalade Companion

If you would like to do EVEN more … we would love for you to consider becoming one of our Marmalade Companion Volunteers in January 2022, giving a weekly call to members over a 20-week period with the aim of supporting each person to make new connections and find social activity in their local community.
