OUR PROJECTS

Loneliness Awareness Week 2021.

Hosted by Marmalade Trust, our annual campaign raises awareness of loneliness and gets people talking about it.

Our 2021 campaign

For Loneliness Awareness Week 2021, we highlighted the importance of building a greater awareness and acceptance of loneliness to help ourselves and others manage the feeling.

We reached a massive 100 million people this year, with thousands of conversations about loneliness happening globally. Countless of charities, organisations, companies, individuals and the press get involved online.

Who gets involved?

In the past few years, more than 25,000 charities, organisations, companies and individuals have come together to raise awareness, including the Royal Family, Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, NHS trusts and all Government departments.

We have received press coverage from major UK local and national TV and radio channels as well as international media such as Bloomberg and news channels in Japan, Australia and New Zealand. We have been featured in national and regional newspapers too.

Campaign recognition

We are thrilled to announce that in March 2022, Marmalade Trust received word that we had won two categories at the prestigious Global Social Media Awards, for our work on our 2021 Loneliness Awareness Week campaign; 'We Get Lonely'.

Our huge thanks go to Whalecake, the social-first marketing and creative agency in Bristol, who worked tirelessly as our creative partners for the campaign.

Thank you!

How does everyone get involved?

There have been so many ways to get involved in Loneliness Awareness Week over the years. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, hundreds of events took place across the country to mark the occasion. When we went virtual in 2020, supporters shared our eye-catching animations and videos, took a pledge online, read our loneliness guides, and started open, honest conversations. We've also co-produced a podcast, partnered with The Great Get Together to create flexible classroom resources and had a special Royal Mail postmark printed on all UK post.

In 2021, we partnered with Direct2Florist on a campaign called ‘Lonely Bouquets’, where over 900 florists left beautiful bouquets in prominent places in their local community, such as a park bench, every day during the week. Those lucky enough to find one passed them on to show kindness and continue the chain of giving.

Beyond Loneliness Awareness Week

Each June, we shine a spotlight on the importance of talking openly about loneliness, but our work doesn’t end here.

We continue to raise awareness throughout the year, and we also run projects in Bristol, UK, including fantastic Christmas Days for those who would otherwise spend the day alone. Contact us or follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or LinkedIn and read our loneliness guides here.
