Christmas Ornaments

Christmas Cheer Driver Volunteer.

Become a Christmas Cheer Driver Volunteer and drive Marmalade members to enjoy a festive event on Christmas Day.

What is a Driver Volunteer?

As a Driver Volunteer, you will be responsible for collecting one or two Marmalade members from their home on Christmas Day and driving them to one of our host venues in Bristol, North Somerset, or South Gloucestershire (typically a pub or restaurant). You will return to collect the member(s) at the end of their meal and drive them home again. This role is suited to volunteers who can spare approximately one hour in the morning (11:00-12:00) and one hour in the afternoon (14:00-15:00) on Christmas Day.  This may vary depending on distance to travel and timings of meal.

Who are Marmalade members?

Our Marmalade members vary in age and ability, but all experience social isolation and/or loneliness and would otherwise be on their own on Christmas Day. Some of our members are not used to engaging with people since the pandemic, so they will require a friendly face and supportive and reassuring volunteers around them.

About the role...

To be a Driver Volunteer, you must:

  • Be over 18

  • Be a car driver with a clean driving licence

  • Have access to an insured car on Christmas day (25th December)

  • Be able to support the members in and out of the vehicle and to and from the house/venue (training will be offered)

  • Be able to drive someone in the Bristol, North Somerset, or South Gloucestershire area

  • Be able to give two suitable references for a reference check (if a new volunteer)

  • Be able to complete an original photo ID check (for new volunteers).

Please note, it would be desirable (but not essential) for you to have:

  • A 5-door car

  • The ability to take more than one member

  • Space to take a mobility aid such as a wheelchair or walker (although not all members require this).

Volunteers and members safety are of paramount importance to us. To mitigate the risk of COVID-19, all driver volunteers are asked to follow our guidance found here, which includes wearing a mask whilst in the car (unless you are medically exempt).

Commitment required

What we offer

If you would like to do EVEN more … we would love for you to consider becoming one of our Marmalade Companion Volunteers in January/February 2023, giving a weekly call to members over a 15 to 20-week period with the aim of supporting each person to make new connections and find social activity in their local community.
