Christmas Doorstep Visit Volunteer.

Become a Christmas Doorstep Visit Volunteer and bring festive joy and companionship by delivering Christmas Hampers to some of the loneliest people in the Greater Bristol region on Christmas Day.

What is a Doorstep Visit Volunteer?
You’ll visit one of our members (or more if you’d like!) on Christmas Day and deliver a festive hamper and, if they wish, have a chat on the doorstep. Find out how they are and bring a bit of Christmas cheer!

Who are Marmalade members?
Our Marmalade members vary in age and ability, but all experience social isolation and/or loneliness and would otherwise be on their own on Christmas Day. Some of our members are housebound or don’t feel comfortable attending events so a doorstep visit will really make their day!

About the role...

To be a Doorstep Visit Volunteer, you must:

  • Be over 18

  • Be able to visit someone in the Bristol, North Somerset, or South Gloucestershire area

  • Have two suitable references for a reference check and proof of identity (such as a driving licence or passport)

  • Be able to attend a brief online session

Please note: Whilst many visits will require you to drive, some could be within walking distance. For this role we can accept families (of no more than 4 people) / couples, as well as those on their own.

Commitment Required:

  • 3 phone calls to the member(s) in the lead up to Christmas.

  • 30 to 60 minutes visit on Christmas Day.  The visit will make a world of difference to those experiencing loneliness and social isolation. Visits to be made anytime between 10.30am and 2pm.

Volunteers and members safety are of paramount importance to us. To mitigate the risk of COVID-19, all volunteers are asked to follow our guidance found here.

If you meet the criteria above and would like to volunteer with us, please complete the volunteer application form as soon as possible.

Become a Marmalade Companion

If you would like to do EVEN more … we would love for you to consider becoming one of our Marmalade Companion Volunteers in January/February 2023, giving a weekly call to members over a 15 to 20-week period with the aim of supporting each person to make new connections and find social activity in their local community.
